The Traveler is a
Lockheed-Boeing
Consortium starship originally designed in 2330 as an armed executive
transport
for the U.S. President
and Vice President, and later for use by members of Congress. Wealthy celebrities and senior executives of
the megacorporations soon began placing orders for Travelers
as personal or company yachts. The Traveler
is heavily armed and armored for a non-military starship, and utilizes
a
military grade HEPLAR fusion torch drive, giving it tremendous fuel
economy in
cruise mode. The spin habitat is modular
in layout and easily modified into multiple guest configurations, and
can
accommodate up to 32 passengers in 3rd Class comfort. 2nd Class accommodations count as
two 3rd Class berths, and 1st Class
accommodations count
as four 3rd Class berths. Grand
Class accommodations can count as many as
eight 3rd
Class berths, depending on the desired level of personal space and
comfort.
The Traveler can carry
four small, two
medium, or one large lander for transporting passengers to the surface
of a
world, and has a cargo bay that can carry up to 400 tons of personal
baggage
and additional supplies. The ship’s
armament consists of two point defense batteries, two Class-1 lasers
and a
Class-2 laser with all aspect capabilities, though Travelers in
Sagittarius typically downrate their Class-2 battery to
Class-1 (or remove it entirely), and use the free mass to carry more
cargo or
propellant reserves. Several Travelers
in Sagittarius have been
resold and converted into Free Traders, passenger liners, and in at
least one
instance, an explorer.
