Prospector Class
The Prospector is a small, relatively inexpensive to own and operate resource collector that specializes in harvesting minerals from asteroidal bodies rather than planetoids or planets.  Using its Class-2 rated beamlaser mount to carve up smaller rocks into manageable chunks, the Prospector and its two small resourcers can process up to 2000 tons of raw material per hour and smelt the ore into finished refined ingots of metal.  A small but serviceable laboratory can perform sample assays to determine the viability of mining a particular body.  Some Prospectors have their cargo holds fitted out with cryogenic storage tanks and go hunting after comets and icy Kuiper Belt objects for their volatiles such as water, ammonia, and methane for resale to the SDC’s replenishment Waystations.  Given its proximity to asteroidal bodies and the need to break them up, the Prospector has a small amount of kinetic armor protection for its otherwise fragile hull.

The nihilist group End of History attempted to destroy the mining outpost of The Alamo (HM+35 0552) in August 2359, but were defeated by the quick action of the nearby Prospector class ship Clementine (AMC-116) and its powerful mining laser.  If the Clementine had not been close at hand and willing to defend the outpost, the asteroid later dubbed The Alamo would likely have been destroyed.
