The
Pathfinder is a British Royal Starfleet scout design that has
been manufactured under license by Oceania, Canada, and the
Ukraine. It is smaller than the Horizon, and
consequently lacks agility and significant armor protection and hull
strength. One advantage the Pathfinder
has over the Horizon is its
spin habitat to keep the crew healthy, something the larger scout
lacks. The Pathfinder
is a reliable if cramped design that has seen it resold to civilian
concerns on numerous occasions for exploration work, and its basic
fusion torch drive is much cheaper to operate versus an
antimatter-catalyzed torch as found on the Horizon, even if a larger fraction
of the ship’s total mass must be set aside for propellant stores to
keep its Delta-Vee competitive with its American counterpart.
