The
Ming
Xing
Class armed merchant is a Manchurian design cargo freighter
theoretically capable of independent operations in dangerous parts of
space. Its hull, while fairly weak to maximize cargo volume, is
armored, and the Ming Xing
sports two Class-2 laser weapons with all-aspect firing arcs to keep
privateers at bay. During the undeclared commerce war with
Russia, Ming Xings operating
in groups of three were capable of holding off attacks by Russian
flagged privateers and pirate groups with a history of antagonizing
Manchurian ships. Against the new Konstantin Olshansky
class frigates however they proved to be outgunned, and this
development saw the use of Tunghu class missile frigates as
escorts.
The Manchurian
Space Force purchased six Ming Xings for use as troop
transports, reducing cargo volume for troop berthing and installing a
hangar bay for Landers. The fact that the Ming Xing was already armored and
armed with a respectable array of weapons meant that escorts could be
minimized, which freed up warships for space control and interdiction
operations. As many as twelve Ming
Xings
are in service to the Jin Xian Commonwealth under various corporations,
though to gain access to the stargate their Class-2 Batteries had to be
downrated to Class-1. It is believed that since the collapse of
the Stargate, all twelve Ming Xings
owned by the Jin Xian Commonwealth have had their weapon systems
restored to their original specifications.
