Manhattan
The Manhattan is an older American cruiser design that has been offered for export sale.  Mercer Heavy Industries bought a manufacturing license for the cruiser in 2352, but has yet to actually begin construction on one in Sagittarius.  The threat of the Dhaoghissi is an obvious spur for construction, but as yet the A.M.C. is struggling to field a fleet with enough ships to protect the volume of space already colonized, and ships like the Manhattan, while quite capable, could buy two Oberon frigates for the same price.

The Manhattan is a combat proven design with excellent speed, offensive power, and defensive stamina – everything expected of a solid cruiser design.  As is typical of American designs, the Manhattan has the ability to carry antiship missiles, though the SIM-9 Narwhals originally specified for the design have been replaced with British R-45 Lancer missiles, which Mercer Heavy Industries has a license to produce.  Once sufficient manufacturing capability is brought on line to begin construction of the Manhattan cruisers, there is no doubt that they will become the mainstay of the A.M.C.’s fleet.
