| The Huangfeng Class
corvette is a convoy escort starship tasked with destroying or driving
off pirates, privateers, and small commerce raiders like the Ypres
frigate. It is a fast design, if a bit weak structurally, and
possesses a good mix of laser and missile armament. The beam
batteries are sufficient to the role of driving off pirates, and the
missiles provide the punch to allow the Huangfeng to tangle with
frigates. The Huangfeng's
principal weakness is its low propellant reserves. The ship's
fusion torch can push it to 1.5 G accelerations in combat maneuvering,
but the Huangfeng's captain
must also carefully husband his fuel supplies or else he will have
nothing left to get home on! Huangfengs
have been modified into small commerce raiders by pirates and
privateers to increase their propellant reserves, usually at the cost
of two antiship missiles. These ships sometimes go by the class
name Hoku. The Huangfeng was produced in large numbers by Manchuria, and even saw small export sales to Aztlan and Korea. As with the Tunghu, there are rumors of Huangfeng production taking place in the Jin Xian system. |
