David Baker
The David Baker class patrol frigate is the first indigenous starship design of the Sagittarius Arm.  Named after an SDC geologist killed on 22 October 2354 while surveying the second planet in the SAG-36 0528 System for the Intrepid (SDCR-5) survey team, the David Baker class represents a compromise between a dedicated warship like the Oberon class frigate, and one better suited to peacekeeping and law enforcement for SDC chartered colonies.  The frigate has a limited antiship armament suitable for driving off pirates and marauders, in exchange for the ability to carry two squads of troops or if necessary, a full squadron of fighters in its large hangar bay.  A normal patrol load-out would feature four interface fighters in two two-ship elements supporting two small landers to carry the troops to the surface of a world, but in a pinch the David Baker can carry 60 troops and landers to bring them all to the surface at once.  As a patrol frigate, the ship’s AMPLAR torch drive and an ample percentage of the ship’s mass dedicated to propellant give it excellent endurance for long patrols.

The David Baker class of frigates is slated for sixteen ships over a period of eight years from 2362 to 2370.  This shipbuilding program may be in jeopardy from a lack of trained crews, pilots, and troops, as well as shifting priorities for the A.M.C.  The faction represented by Joachim Mercer is more interested in fielding offensive ship classes like the Oberon frigate and the Pegasus light cruiser warships, whereas the faction represented by Gavin Aurimas feel that peacekeeping and patrol ships like the David Baker should take precedence.
