The
Corsair
Class is based on the Wanderer
Class merchant. The example shown below is but one iteration of
the armed Wanderer; ships intended to engage in piracy often substitute
needle beam free electron x-ray laser batteries for the submunition
launchers. (This is both practical for disabling merchants while
keeping them intact and quite often a necessity as well, as pirates
rarely have access to thermonuclear detonation laser submunition
warheads.) In the blockade runner configuration shown, the ship’s
submunition launchers are based on the need for the Corsair to be able to fight its way
past much larger warships in order to get to its destination. The
Corsair’s cargo
capacity is greatly reduced over the Wanderer,
thus only the most vital or valuable of cargoes are carried. A
handful of Corsairs are known
to exist in Sagittarius in the possession of both the SDC and with
several independent corporations.
