Citoyen D'Honneur
The Citoyen D'Honneur is a vessel based on the Corsair series armed merchant upgrade that is known to have conducted piracy operations against merchant shipping in Sagittarius.  The present whereabouts of the Citoyen D'Honneur and her sister ships are unknown, but the SDC has offered a reward of up to $1 million for information that leads to the capture or destruction of the ship(s). The ships are believed to be operated by French expatriates who had plagued merchant shipping in the Orion arm under various letters of marque during the conflicts between Aztlan, Brazil, Manchuria, Russia, and the Western Alliance as well as several corporate patrons.  Both Citoyen D’Honneur and her sister ships Terreur des Cieux, and Sang De Vierge infiltrated Sagittarius in 2358 under bogus registries as Wanderer class merchants for a fictitious small shipping firm.  When pirate attacks began in early 2359, the SDC investigated possible sources for the pirate vessels and realized their error, which in turn led to more stringent controls on allowing vessels access to the Sagittarius Stargate by 2360.

The three ships of the Citoyen D'Honneur “Class” are Corsair class upgrades to the basic Wanderer hull.  They have improved drive systems and power plants, hull armor, and a weapon suite that includes a Class-1 battery and a Needle Beam battery for disabling target vessels intact before closing to board.  The upgraded AMPLAR torch drive has necessitated the removal of the aerodynamic control surfaces and landing gear for atmospheric entry and surface landing in order to conserve mass and keep the pirate within a nominal calorimetric signature when firing its drives (for this reason, the pirate craft generally limits main drive acceleration to 0.05 G instead of the maximum capable 0.075 G cruise settings in order to appear as a simple Corsair upgrade rather than reveal its true identity.)  The Citoyen D'Honneur is not known for carrying many troops, though it is entirely possible to sacrifice cargo hold volume for berthing.  That said, a dozen hard men in battledress are more than a match for a typical merchant crew of twice that number.

A persistant rumor, one linked to the Ypres frigate scare, is that the three pirate ships are actually part of the Black Fleet of French Intelligence, sent to gather supplies for the frigates as well as harass the SDC and test their capabilties.  There is no proof of this rumor, but that has not stopped rampant speculation, especially as how on several occasions ships or outposts have been attacked and only food, water, spare mechanical and electronic parts, and volatiles seized.  The trio’s greatest pirate score was an Astral Queen class starliner, the Astral Temptress (AMC-104), of Astral Adventure Lines that was attacked in November of 2360 in the Destiny system (HD+47 0309) while on a chartered sightseeing tour of Sagittarius.  The Astral Temptress was boarded after her point defense batteries were shot out and the ship threatened with destruction if she did not heave to.  The pirates seized a vast sum of personal wealth from the passengers, as well as various luxury goods, liquor, and foods from her well-stocked galleys.  Injuries to the passengers and crew were minor, and once the ship was plundered, she was sent on her way while the pirates retreated to parts unknown.
