Chinnook
The Chinnook is an American interface-capable craft tasked with the recovery of wrecked fighters, small shuttles, and their crews.  The Chinnook can recover vehicles on worlds with atmospheres and with escape velocities of up to 16 km/sec.  It is armed only with a point defense battery, and so in hostile areas it is often escorted by fighters or by a Merkava gunship.  The Chinnook can typically carry a single crippled fighter on board, though it can salvage critical systems and the remains of the crews off of up to three typical fighters at a time.  American carriers will typically carry at least one Chinnook on board in addition to their fighter complements.  Several dozen Chinnooks are known to exist in Sagittarius, where they are used in a host of functions, as they are very versatile platforms.  Mercer Heavy Industries had a license to manufacture Chinnooks for foreign military sales, and so retains the ability to produce more ships if necessary.
