Banks Space Station
The Banks class space station is a medium armed space station of a modular wheel design whose components can be quickly delivered and assembled by four Connestoga class merchants in a frontier system.  Its nature as a frontier space station has served it well in Sagittarius, and its heavy armament easily secures a world against pirate incursion.  The Banks supports a large crew of station maintenance, operations, and cargo handling personnel, as well as a small but effective laboratory section to continue research on new colony worlds.  In addition, there are permanent accommodations for up to 250 residents, of which many will be the family of the crew.  An extensive agricultural facility provides sufficient crops and livestock to feed the entire station, negating the need for frequent resupply.  The large cargo bay holds reserves of volatiles and drive propellants to refuel and replenish passing ships as well as accept their cargoes for delivery to the surface.  The hangar bay can support up to 25 small shuttles or 5 large landers, and will usually have a mix of small craft plus sufficient room to accept incoming small craft from starships.

The Banks is well armed, with point defense weapons against hostile missiles and fighters, two Class-1 and two Class-2 batteries, plus a Class-3 battery to deter even a frigate from attacking the station.  Area Defense Fire Control systems provide protection to other vessels taking refuge against attack.  Finally, four R-45 Lancer light antiship missiles serve as a final deterrent against capital ship attacks.  Even so well armed, however, the Banks station is not a fortress, and so cannot hope to defend against a military force determined to destroy or to occupy it.
