The Encyclopedia contains information
regarding the Sagittarius Arm and its inhabitants as well as relevant
historical knowledge of people, places, and events that led to its
colonization. Entries are cross-referenced as much as practical
to allow free-form browsing of the databanks so that visitors may
explore the spiral arm at their own pace. Users may begin their

| Hayes-Mizuno Habitable
Star Catalogue The Hayes-Mizuno Habitable Star Catalogue is a listing of every star system whose primary star is within spectral classification F5V to K5V, considered the band of stellar spectral types most likely to contain worlds hospitable for life. SDC Astronomers Julianna Hayes and Ryuichi Mizuno conducted the survey during the months of May and June 2355, using telescope data collected from various points in the Gateway system, and via robotic interstellar probes. Star systems whose catalogue number begins with 'HM' are part of the Hayes-Mizuno survey. A listing of Star System Catalogues can be found here. |

| Hayes Bright Star
Catalogue The Hayes Bright Star Catalogue, identified by star system catalogue numbers beginning with 'HB,' was conducted by SDC Astronomer Julianna Hayes during the year 2355. Star systems belonging to the catalogue are those whose primary stars have an Absolute Magnitude brighter than +4.00 and dimmer than +1.00. A listing of Star System Catalogues can be found here. |

| Hayes Dim Star
Catalogue The Hayes Dim Star Catalogue, identified by star system catalogue numbers beginning with 'HD,' was conducted by SDC Astronomer Julianna Hayes during the years 2355 through 2357. Star systems belonging to the catalogue are those whose primary stars are main sequence stars with a spectral classification from K6V to M9V. A listing of Star System Catalogues can be found here. |

| Helios Corporation Headquarters - Fury (HM+53 0102 A System) Helios Corporation's Sagittarius division was contracted by the SDC to provide antimatter in support of AMPLAR torch drives, Antimatter-Catalyzed Fusion reactors, and Long Jump Stardrives. Helios generates antimatter using massive cyclotrons powered by solar energy harvested close to a star. The market for antimatter has made the corporation extremely wealthy, and given their virtual monopoly status in Sagittarius, are in a position to become an economic and hence political force to be reckoned with. At the moment they are on excellent terms with the SDC, which provides protection for their facilities in exchange for cheap antimatter for their starfleet. They are also members of the Bank of Sol's Sagittarius Board of Governors, as the price of antimatter is now a factor in the value of the Solarian Dollar. |

| Hiders Hiders is a name applied to any group or clade who wish to avoid interaction with the rest of civilization for any number of reasons. What makes a group a Hider as opposed to simple hermits or outcasts is that Hiders do not wish to be found and often go to great lengths to do so. They wish to disappear from memory, to appear as though they do not exist. Paranoia about their home governments or the megacorporations is common among Hiders, though there may be religious oppression (real or merely perceived), or they may share beliefs or customs that would make them criminals in the civilized world. (Polygamy, incest, slavery, and child marriage have been the basis of some Hider groups, in particular the radical New Danite offshoot of Mormonism that sprang up in the early 22nd Century, as has radical human alteration with bionics or genome modification, such as full converstion borgs in the late 21st Century, or Uploads, or some of the more radical Exotic Tweaks. Far less common - if indeed such things ever happened at all - but more likely to appear in entertainment is the Hider cult based on human sacrifice or some equally horrific practice.) Hider groups were among the first to capitalize on the increasing availability of space travel in the 21st Century, and many went out to the Moon, to Mars, the Belt, and eventually the Jovian and Saturnian moons. Most of these groups were ill-equipped for an existence completely cut off from the rest of the world, and they perished within several years of their exodus. Of the ones that survived, most found that the frontier was always catching up to them, and pushed ever farther out into the Solar System, reaching Uranus and Neptune and colonizing the moons there, while others, realizing that even these worlds would eventually be reached by the rest of civilization, traveled into the dim hinterlands of the Kuiper belt. The most radical of these live in the most austere conditions, as the necessity of remaining unknown and undiscovered requires them to use as little energy as possible which could be detected by IR sensors. In large part, most Hiders were 'known' in that their habitats' locations were observable, but as they refused to even acknowlege communication attempts, and in some cases used violence to maintain their privacy, were simply left alone. Even those groups believed to have despicable customs or practices were left alone, as the cost and effort to reach them in the outer Solar System (to say nothing of the Kuiper Belt) was prohibitive, and they never did anything to call attention to themselves in the public consciousness once they left the core of Earth civilization. When travel to the stars became a reality in the 23rd Century, many Hider groups attempted to reach the interstellar frontier. Most were turned away as undesireable prospects for the government-sponsored colonization efforts that marked the 23rd Century. It was only during the 2300s, when the threshold for stardrive equipped spacecraft had reached a point where private ownership was possible (through sale of second or third-hand ships, some a century old), that the most ambitious Hider groups could leap out for the interstellar frontier. The opening of the Orion-Sagittarius stargate created a surge of colonization by Hiders. The SDC's policy of open doors to all groups but established nations for colonization, and the perception of a wide open frontier that their oppressors in Orion could never reach created an ideal situation for these Hider groups. Most did not take SDC charters for worlds already surveyed, instead preferring to try their own luck and exploring deep into Sagittarius for a place to call home. There are several notable exceptions - one being the German commune of Neu Baeyer in the HD-51 1306 A System. They are considered a Hider group based on their desire to remain cut off from civilization and their refusal to communicate except to state their desire for isolation, but their location is known, and they have even attracted 'converts' to their ascetic lifestyle - some of whom have managed to convince the commune to accept them. |
