System
Summary: The SAG+49 2911 System is a binary star system
consisting of a G0 yellow subgiant primary and a F6 yellow-white main
sequence dwarf companion that orbit each other with a semi-major axis
of 15,230 AU (about 0.24 light-years). The two stars are far
enough apart from each other to permit short stardrive jumps between
them and they may be independently targeted for stardrive jumps into
the binary system. Both stars have small independent colonies
present, and there are two automated facilities in planetary orbits
around the 'B' star. Neither colony wishes to have relations with
the SDC at this time.

Jove (SAG+49 2911 A
VI)
|
|
World Overview
Jove is populated by Jovian tweaks who make their living mining heavy
metals and fishing the equatorial oceans. The seas are nearly 50%
more saline than Terrestrial seawater, and the organisms that have
evolved here have developed a means to utilize the salts as an energy
source in a manner similar to an akaline battery. The Scuttler
Ray is one of the few creatures that is processed for export as a
delicacy - the remaining harvests are really palatable only to a Jovian
due to their salty and metallic flavors. They are not
particularly disposed to outsiders who haven't come to trade, which,
given the absurd energy requirements for getting cargoes into orbit,
isn't very often. The Jovians have undertaken construction on an
orbital catapult to sling cargoes into orbit where tugs from Hera can
capture them and tow them to the moon. The catapult should cut
launch costs considerably, and may make the colony viable in the long
run. To this end, the SDC has offered financial and technical
support, but the Jovians were proud and independently minded, and
refused. |

Hera (SAG+49 2911 A
VI-3)
|
|
|
World Overview
Hera is a way station
for
any starship traffic visiting Jove. It is an unremarkable world
of low
gravity, no atmosphere, and bitter cold. A colony of Jovians runs
the
way station and there has been some minor exploitation of titanium
lodes. Like the Jove colonists, Hera has refused SDC assistance
in colonial development. |

Fuzhou (SAG+49 2911
B IV)
|
|
|
World Overview
The fourth
planet of the SAG+49 2911 B system hosts a small colony of Chinese from
Guangzhou. The colony is well funded and equipped, but very
isolationist, and desires no interaction with the Sagittarius
Development Corporation or the Mercer Compact. For now
the SDC
will send a starship through the system every six months or so to check
up on the colony and if necessary render assistance, but to date any
SDC ships transmitting radio messages to Fuzhou receive only a cold and
curt acknowledgment of receipt. The presence of the SDC Commo
Relay station in the system is regarded as a point of suspicion by the
colonists, despite the fact that it was present in the system several
years before the colony was established, and is commonly regarded as
being used to spy on the colony.
