The planet Jewel serves as one of the SDC's largest colonies outside of Fury in Sagittarius. The planet enjoys a Mature Near-Compatible biosphere with a thin but breathable atmosphere, but whereas Sulfur Flats has the pervasive taint of sulfur compounds to deal with, Jewel's biosphere has the rather surprising incorporation of both left and right handed chirality in its amino acid groups. Native life can utilize both types effectively, but earth-based life can only utilize left-handed chirality. The problem has created a need for protein and amino acid supplements and enzyme treatments to allow the colonists to effectively live off the land, and at the moment serves as the primary drain on profits for the SDC's development of the system. A long term solution for genemodding the colonists for adaptability is also being pursued. In the meantime, huge tracts of land around Diadem have been sterilized, roofed over in massive greenhouses, and reseeded with paydirt imported from Earth for crops and livestock. An export unique to Jewel is a semi-tropical hardwood known as Heart of Gold Oak. Heart of Gold Oak is prized for its rich golden wood with a densely patterned grain, which often requires nothing more than a clear lacquer for finishing. Jewel has one primary colony town, Diadem, with some scattered settlements surrounding it. The government is corporate administration through the SDC. The Bank of Sol maintains a branch office on Jewel in cooperation with the SDC. Settlers and their descendents aged 21 and older are entitled to Land Grants of 100 hectares, and receive one share of stock in the colonial development corporation formed for Jewel. Like most Colonial Development Corporations, stock ownership grants the bearer one vote per share of stock during annual referendums on colonial development, and only stock holders may be officers of the local corporation, hold public office, or serve as planetary law enforcement. Law enforcement is currently limited to a Sheriff appointed by the SDC plus 6 deputies and 2 non-sworn staff. Jewel Highport A Waystation class space station is currently serving as the terminus for a beanstalk under construction by the SDC to link Diadem to orbit. Ring material is being assembled to serve as the beanstalk and the anchor, but there are concerns about the beanstalk's longterm viability with the moon of Typhon's weak but nontrivial gravity creating tidal forces. |

Tigre Verde is a relatively small gas giant about one-fifth the mass of Jupiter. It is notable for the presence of a habitable moon, Sulfur Flats, and for its relatively high concentration of Methane. It is speculated that the two parent stars of the system consumed the bulk of dust and gas that could have allowed Tigre Verde to grow in size. |

Sulfur Flats is a world with a harsh ecosystem rated as Mature Near-Compatible, with a thin oxygen-rich atmosphere tainted by sulfur dioxide spewed from rings of volcanoes that continue shedding internal heat generated by both radioactives in the world's metal core and by intense tidal forces from the parent jovian. The chief difficulty encountered by the colonists are the sulfur compounds in the atmosphere, the seas tainted with weak sulfuric acid, and of course, the sulfur compounds utilized by the native flora and fauna for their biochemistry. What has made Sulfur Flats viable as a colony, apart from the hundred strong SDC research station dedicated to studying the native biosphere, has been the abundant mineral wealth of the moon, with its vulcanism bringing up rich lodes of heavy and rare earth metals and radioactives from deep within the mantle. Sulfur Flats is administered by the SDC from the nearby planet Jewel, which orbits the orange dwarf consort of the system primary, and trips for its employees and their families to Jewel are used as popular incentives for meeting productivity goals. Given the harsh nature of Sulfur Flats, it is hardly surprising that the chief aspiration for those who live and work here is to earn enough money to settle permanently on Jewel, and many of the SDC's employees have chosen to work the mines and smelters while their loved ones live in an entirely different system in order to accrue the wealth to bring them to Jewel. |
