System Summary:  The HM+53 0102 System is a binary star system composed of one main sequence yellow dwarf primary of spectral type G1 orbited by a dim red dwarf companion of spectral type M9 with a semi-major axis of 88 AU.  The system was initially believed to be gravitationally bound with the nearby HM+00 0000 orange dwarf star of the Gateway system, but further refinements of the stars' proper motions has determined that the Fury System and the Gateway System are separate, if affecting each others' ultimate paths in their orbit of the galaxy's core and the perturbation of each others' cometary halos.  The primary has three worlds and one asteroid belt.  One world is a garden planet with a mature compatible biosphere.  The most distant planet is a gas giant with a system of moons that is being heavily exploited.  The companion red dwarf is orbited in turn by a single small gas giant and a handful of moons, all of which are quite unremarkable, and no further exploration of the companion's planetary system has been conducted to date.

Planet
Fury (HM+53 0102 A II)

World Overview

Fury is the most populous colony in Sagittarius, and was founded in 2355 as the primary exploration base for the original ten survey missions into the spiral arm.  Once Sagittarius was opened up to colonization, this beautiful garden planet was a natural choice for settlement.  The Mercer and Aurimas families have moved to Fury in their entirety, occupying palatial estates along the Palanquin River that flows through the primary colony city of Capital Main.  The planet Fury was originally known as Phoenix, but became informally changed to Fury in 2357, when the nature of the planet’s violent hurricane cycles became apparent and the original site for Capital Main was heavily damaged.  Since then the city has been moved inland, and only a heavily fortified seaport remains at the original location to support the beanstalk that operates in the equatorial ocean.  The name “Fury” stuck, and the official name for the world was changed to reflect this in 2359.  Fury is notable for having the first of a handful of operational beanstalks in all of human settled Sagittarius.  It is the headquarters in Sagittarius for most of the major corporations as well as the Bank of Sol and thus represents the bulk of the arm’s technical, industrial, and financial capital.

Since the crash of the Stargate in early 2361, Capital Main has become the home of a large number of wealthy and celebrated people, most of whom were not intending on permanently residing in Sagittarius.  This isolation from the Orion Arm has been seen as a curse by many, and a boon to others, who realize that they are in a unique position to shape the culture and development of Sagittarius to their own desires.  Actors and performance artists in particular have been quick to form production companies to supply entertainment to the scattered masses, sure in the knowledge that existing entertainment databases will become stale within a short time out on the frontier, and that the colonies will be hungry for something new and original to read, watch, listen to, and experience.  Likewise, publishing houses have been establishing distribution networks through the SDC's news and information system to collect and publish travelogues, journals, and reports from the colonies as forms of news and entertainment an information hungry humanity will pay handsomely for.

Some of Fury's notable exports include a fine gengineered tobacco grown in the tropical lowlands south of the equator, and the curious land crawling crustacean known as the Fury Lobster, an intemperate if very tasty creature found in the mountain highlands north of Capital Main, among other places.  Attempts to domesticate the Fury Lobster have been unsuccessful thus far, as they are violently solitary creatures outside of a short spawning season, and go to great lengths to kill and eat each other when held together in captivity.  The excellent price the Fury Lobster fetches on the market has caused the SDC to aggressively regulate harvesting of these creatures to sustain their population, and poaching can be a lucrative if risky business for those so inclined.

Capital Main Above

The orbital terminus for the Fury Beanstalk is a Sagan class orbital habitat linked by the beanstalk below to Fury and to a small asteroid above as a counterweight.  Capital Main Above has a permament population of 3,000 people and can accommodate thousands more in transient population.  It serves as the way station between the planet and orbit, and people and cargoes are constantly passing through.

MHI Autofab Alfa

Autofab Alfa is an orbital fabrication and synthesis plant that serves as the primary factory, foundry, and manufacturing complex for Mercer Heavy Industries.  A considerable percentage of all manufacturing in Sagittarius is done at this complex of space stations, and it is one of a handful of operational shipyards.  MHI Autofab Alfa also acts as one of two headquarters facilities for the corporation.

selene
Selene (HM+53 0102 A II-1)

World Overview

Selene has been settled by Jovian and Martian tweaks, who are well adapted to the thin atmosphere and bitter cold.  There is no free oxygen on Selene, so anyone who wishes to leave the shelter of the habitats must bring along their own supply.  The moon supports several speculative mining ventures as well as a research outpost dedicated to studying and preserving the dying anaerobic biosphere of the world.  As the moon's geologic processes fail with the cooling of its core, so too do the world's hopes for continued survival as a host for its indigenous life.  Of great scientific curiosity is why the moon's biosphere is so radically different from its parent world.

fiona
Fiona (HM+53 0102 A IV.6)

World Overview

Fiona serves the SDC as an administrative center to support research on Alyssa as well as research on Fiona itself.  The planet is shrouded in dense clouds of methane and hydrocarbons, making it appear featureless from space.  There are several volatiles collection stations scattered around the main complex of Fiona Base, but these are intended only to support the base and to refuel interface craft coming to and from the moon.

jacqueline
Jacqueline (HM+53 0102 A IV.10)

World Overview

Jacqueline is an iceball world believed to be a Kuiper Belt Object that fell in towards the primary, perhaps perturbed by the companion B star, and was captured by Zeus.  It has one of the most eccentric orbits of all the moons, and the most inclination, lending credence to the capture theory.  Compositionally, it is essentially a gigantic ball of gravel held togther with ice and its own gravity.  Had Jacqueline's orbit taken her within 300,000 km of Zeus, she would have exceeded the Roche Limit and been torn to pieces and converted into a ring.  Currently a small research and support expedition is on world studying the composition and structure of Jacqueline for an insight into the formation of the HM+53 0102 system.

Karin (HM+53 0102 A IV.12)

World Overview

Karin is a mining and manufacturing base owned by Mercer Heavy Industries.  The majority of the products manufactured on Karin are heavy mining machinery, machinery repair tools, and spare parts for heavy equipment and interface craft.  Karin also produces 1, 3, and 5 MT thermonuclear detonation laser warheads for submunitions and antiship missiles, using a supply of easily obtainable uranium found on the moon, and enriching it sufficiently enough for use in a heavy water fission power reactor to generate plutonium and tritium for the warhead triggers.  The complex producing nuclear weapons is somewhat removed from the main facility, and is protected continually by several hundred security personnel as well as by surface to orbit missile and laser defenses.

Natasha (HM+53 0102 A IV-15)

World Overview

Natasha would be a giant planet on the order of a small Neptune in its own right if it were not a moon of the near super-Jovian gas giant of Zeus.  It is an exploration outpost of the Royal Dutch Shell corporation looking into exploiting easily available hydrocarbons generated in the deep cold and pressure of the moon's atmosphere.  The chief obstacle to profitability seems to be the high energy cost associated with attaining orbit, and RDS is testing several Beanstalk designs that can survive the high electromagnetic and radiation environment around Zeus.  Natasha's strong gravity and relative remoteness within the system makes it a harsh posting for Royal Dutch Shell employees, and they are rotated out every 90 days for R&R on Fury.
