Arkhangelsk is a Garden world experiencing a glacial period that has covered much of the planet in ice. The Russian Gazprom Interstellar corporation has taken up the task of colonization for the world, as Arkhangelsk enjoys extensive petroleum and natural gas deposits that the company specializes in exploiting. Most of the labor force is of central asian descent, though management is clearly ethnic Russian. The oil and gas wells are found mostly in the tundra zones of the planet, with a narrow equatorial band of small settlements providing recreation for the roughnecks who work the petroleum fields, as well as providing a living space for their families. The primary colony town is Novaya Urengoy, with a population of roughly 12,000. Despite Arkhangelsk's relative remoteness from the core of human settled Sagittarius, its close Jump Points make shipping its major exports cheap and relatively swift, allowing Gazprom to make a comfortable living. The planet's major trading partners are Aurora, Paydirt, and Atlantis.
Arkhangelsk Station
Arkhangelsk Station serves as the highport for Gazprom's imports and exports to nearby systems. It is a Waystation class space station purchased from the SDC when Gazprom settled the planet in 2357.

Novaya Minsk serves as a research outpost for further Gazprom exploitation of the HM+41 2746 system. There are rumors that Gazprom is building a secret weapons complex on Novaya Minsk, but for what purpose is unknown. Gazprom's holdings in Sagittarius are small, and are not in direct competition with any of the other major powers. Other rumors state that Novaya Minsk serves as a prison for enemies of the corporation, but this makes little sense on a cost basis - it is cheaper to incarcerate people on Arkhangelsk, which is itself remote and forbidding across much of its surface, than to ship a few malcontents to a distant moon within the star system.
